About the Project

The Denver Broncos, Empower Retirement, and the Denver Municipal Stadium decided to re-brand their stadium in early 2020, right before the COVID-19 pandemic was about to hit our country. The project scope included nine signs, 13,000 square feet of ACM work, and an RGB programmable lighting logo sign.

The Challenge

This project had a massive scope with the additional challenge of being undertaken at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Broncos quickly realized Jones Sign was virtually the only company that could complete this project prior to their first event in early July. This left Jones Sign with just 12 weeks to complete $2.9 million worth of work during a pandemic.

One of the trickiest parts of this project was the programming of Empower's flag logo. Each of the signs on this project included RGB programmable lighting within the flags to make them appear as if they were waving in the wind.

The Solution

The Jones team formulated a plan to isolate an experienced team and accomplished their goal. There were nine signs and over 13,000 sq. ft of ACM work. The project included an 87'w x 45'h primary identification sign on the south end of the stadium where we designed, engineered, fabricated, and installed the substructure for this massive sign.

The Result

The pixel point system used in the RGB programmable Empower flag logo sign is one-of-a-kind, designed by Jones Sign. It employs multi-universe individual control of over 4500 pixels to achieve the effect of a waving flag at each elevation. With the help of Monigle Associates and Empower's marketing team, we were able to calibrate the animation with on-site personnel and Zoom technology.

Despite the pandemic, we completed the event by the end of June as promised, even though there were no events on the calendar due to the global pandemic.
