IPIC - Bayshore Mall
Milwaukee, WI - Bayshore Mall in a suburb of Milwaukee is among the least signed malls in the nation. Local codes allow virtually no signage, and past variance attempts have been unsuccessful. So when a major tenant opened an entertainment complex that included high end movie theatres, bowling and fine dining, they needed to come up with a visual cue to the entry that was not a sign. TK Architects of Kansas City came up with a massive free-form sail sculpture. Approvals from tenant, landlord, city and engineering took up most of the lead time, allowing Jones Sign just two weeks for fabrication and installation. The install was especially challenging as it was indoors on the second level of the mall. The sculpture had to be of steel to withstand interactive use. Moving weldments of over 1000 lbs. to the store entry without benefit of equipment took a combination of strength and ingenuity. An impossible deadline on a tough project was a challenge that Jones met, resulting in a successful opening for the complex.
